Your story reminded me a little bit of our Patti Smith when she performed in honor of Bob Dylan, whose Nobel Prize she was accepting. If you haven't seen that video . . . ommmmm, it's so wonderful. Just like you said: the crowd loves the humanness!
Which reminds me of that time John Mayer was singing Box of Rain in Dead and Company and lost his way and they started over. He said SO MUCH love came from the crowd.
