I wasn’t sure I’d be able to write about Bukayo so soon after his death, and if this had happened five or ten years ago I don’t think I could have. I’d have tied myself up in knots about what to write.
Instead, guided by all the Imaginative Storm has taught me, I just sat down as I usually do to write these pieces, with only a topic in mind. I didn’t know the pencil-throwing would become an image for Bukayo’s short life, and I didn’t know my fathers or Feri n’Gashi would appear. I’m glad they did, especially Feri n’Gashi, only a camel but steel-true and great of heart.
I don’t set a timer when I write these pieces, but I tend to start late in the evening, so that I only have an hour or two before I’m going to collapse into bed. I’m writing this now with a tiny sliver of moon outside the window, and dark quiet surrounding me.
Too quiet, without Bukayo. But I have searched through the old Daily Prompt videos we used to post on Instagram, and found Bukayo’s contributions. I hope you enjoy them.
Write on!!
Oh, Allegra! My heart is sore for you yet expanded because of your openness in sharing this loss of your "Captain of the Colosseum", mighty Bukayo. I read both pieces and watched these prompts and may try my hand at writing to them. Please know my thoughts are tender for Bukayo and for you. Kindest regards: Genevia
